The Challenge

The workplace team at this financial services institution knew that spaces weren’t being used effectively, but they didn’t have the granular data to understand why. Employee complaints about a lack of privacy were common, but the floor was primarily designed for collaboration, and the team didn’t know whether a costly full redesign was the right answer.

The Solution

VergeSense Strategic Advisory Services conducted a 90-day utilization study that revealed a key insight: collaboration spaces and flexible workstations were used almost equally because employees were seeking privacy, not collaboration. The data pointed to three specific, targeted design interventions rather than a full overhaul.

The team added acoustical elements to collaboration spaces to reduce noise bleed, adjusted table sizes in two-person cubbies to improve focus-work suitability, and repurposed six-person conference rooms into open workpoints for three people, meeting the actual demand pattern.
