Challenge

The workplace team at a banking and financial services institution felt that spaces weren’t being used effectively, and a design change could increase their efficiency. They needed usage data to inform their optimization project.

Solutions

The VergeSense Strategic Advisory Services team uncovered that while the floor was primarily made up of collaboration spaces, collaboration and flexible workstations were used almost equally because employees needed privacy.

The team made three design decisions to enhance privacy:

  • Added acoustical elements to collaboration spaces
  • Adjusted table sizes in two-person cubbies
  • Repurposed six-person conference rooms into open workpoints for three people

Results

Three key design changes led to space optimizations to increase privacy, uncovering $280K in annual savings.
